Updated 15 January 2008: The continuing drop in bore levels has prompted Council to prepare for more stringent restrictions for use of Council supplied water.
Please note that due to increased water usage across the shire, Council has now
outlawed the use of town water supplies on gardens other than by buckets and watering cans. All residents are requested to conserve water as Council’s bore levels are continuing to fall.
Private bore water users are also requested to reduce usage where possible as aquifer levels throughout the shire are steadily falling. These changes have also been advertised via On Our Selection News.
Please adhere to the Water Management Roster published below.
- The following water restrictions are in place in all areas connected to a Council water supply.
- Watering of Lawns - NOT permitted
- New Turf - exemptions from current restrictions or special water usage permits are NOT available to residents who wish to establish new turf
- Paved/concreted/timbered areas (ie driveways, patios, verandahs, decks or the like) - hosing of these areas is NOT permitted
- Motor vehicles - may only be washed using a bucket filled directly from a tap
- Buildings - washing is NOT permitted
- Swimming pools and spas - written approval is required from Council before filling or refilling
- Construction - all hoses must be fitted with a trigger nozzle. Owners having building work undertaken are responsible for ensuring that their builder is aware of these restrictions. In instances where the restrictions are breached, the owner will be liable for any fines
- Tanks - must NOT be filled or topped up with mains water unless used entirely for domestic purposes
- Garden watering is restricted to buckets and watering cans ONLY at any time
Breaches of these restrictions will result in on-the-spot fines.
